Atlanta Sports Teams


Atlanta is the capital of Georgia, which is a major hub when it comes to sports, especially when you consider that the city managed to host the Summer Olympics back in 1996. Atlanta invested a great deal into the infrastructure of the town to successfully host the Olympics. Apart from this, you will also find that Atlanta is home to several prestigious sports teams that participate in regional and national sporting events. Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are a professional American football team that participates in the NFL, commonly known only as of the Falcons. The team acquired a new stadium in recent years known as the Mercedes Benz Stadium which they call home. Before the construction of the new stadium that took place in 2014, the Atlanta Falcons had two other stadiums which they called home, including the Georgia Dome and the Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. The team is yet to win a championship but managed to advance to the Super Bowl. The team has managed to win NFC division titles a total of 6 times and participated in the playoffs a total of 13 times. The team has a rivalry with the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints.

Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves are a professional baseball team that participates in Major League Baseball ever since it became a national league member. The team impresses with a rich history that started in Boston. In 1966, the team moved to Atlanta and played their home matches at the Atlanta Fulton County stadium right up until 1996. In 1997, the team relocated to Turner Field until 2016 and moved to Sun Trust Park in mid-2017 where they are still playing to this day. The team has managed to win 39 different titles, 3 World Series, 7 National League titles, 12 east division titles, five west division titles, and a total of 2 wild card berths. The team has significant rivalries with the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets and is considered one of two teams to be under corporate ownership, same as the Toronto Blue Jays.

Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks is a professional basketball team that forms part of the NBA. The team is a member of the Eastern Conference, and the Philips Arena is considered their home. Referred to as the Hawks, the team has managed to claim the NBA championship only once since the franchise started. Fortunately, the team have managed to win four conference titles and 5 division titles. The team has experienced some difficult times since its inception, but that all changed in 2015 with a change of ownership that led to the team making it to the conference finals only to be defeated by the Cleveland Cavaliers. The team’s rivalries include Orlando Magic and the Boston Celtics. The team colours include green, grey, and red.
