Soccer

Soccer, also known as football in most countries outside of North America, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net, primarily by using any part of the body except the hands and arms (goalkeepers are an exception). The sport is governed by a set of rules called the Laws of the Game, established by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

Soccer is widely regarded as the world’s most popular sport, with millions of players and fans globally. Matches are typically played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with goalposts at each end. The game consists of two halves, each lasting 45 minutes, with a halftime interval. Points are awarded by scoring goals, and the team with the most goals at the end of the match is declared the winner. Variants of the game can include smaller teams or modified rules, such as futsal and beach soccer.

The sport is also associated with various competitions and leagues, including domestic leagues, international clubs tournaments, and national teams competing in world championships like the FIFA World Cup.
