Shinty

Shinty is a traditional Scottish field sport similar to hockey, played primarily in Scotland. The sport involves two teams, typically comprising twelve players each, who use curved wooden sticks (called camans) to hit a small ball (the sphere) into the opposing team’s goal. Shinty is characterized by its fast pace and physicality, where players can use both their sticks and bodies to play the ball. The objective is to score goals by getting the ball into the net, and matches are played on a rectangular field. The game is deeply rooted in Scottish culture, with organized competitions and a structured set of rules governing gameplay. Shinty is not only a sport but also a significant part of community identity and heritage in the regions where it is played.
